Casting Calls

Everyday there are casting calls held for kids looking for work in TV, Film and Commercials. FInd Casting Calls in your city today!

Jobs that are opportunities to be in a movie, on TV, on stage or even commercials are usually posted up as casting calls. The only ones that can post or even know about these job opportunities are producers, casting directors and talent agents or managers. They are listed daily in what they call Breakdowns in the business. From time to time casting calls are actually open to the public, depending on the role that they are looking for. Open calls are usually done for community theatre or non-union films.

For a production project the casting director, producer, director or choreographer will be selecting the cast during the casting process. If your agent or manager thinks that you will be a good fit for the production they will submit your headshot and resume to that casting call. If the casting director is interested in you they will contact your agent to set up an audition for the role they see you playing at that point. One thing to know is that there are several stages to a casting call. At the first audition you will be expected to have a piece already prepared depending on the nature of the project. Typically this prepared piece is like a monologue for example. Monologues are a prepared speech that is directed towards another character. When choosing a monologue you should choose a piece that will best show off your abilities for the role that is being auditioned for. There are some cases where you need to have sides to perform; these are scene samples from the working script that you are going to the audition for. Sides are performed with the casting director; they will sit and read the other character lines in a deadpan style. This is where your talent comes in to help invoke the emotions that are necessary for the scene. For stage performances you may be asked to have a song prepared. Just make sure that the song you choose really highlights your skills and ability to portray the character you are auditioning for.

As long as your first audition goes well during a casting call, they will call your agent wanting you back for a second audition or to tell you that you have the part. For the second audition, the actor will perform the same piece from before but this time they will be taking directions from the casting director or even the director. They do this to test your direction taking abilities. They want to see how well you will do once actually on set.

The casting director will call you into a room to be photographed for print advertising or TV commercials at this stage of the casting call; sometimes these photos or video footage may be used to make a video. This is later put on a website where the clients can view the photos and video. Sometimes they will make a choice right off but sometimes it may take until days before the production is set to start before they come to their decision. Print and commercial casting calls tend to be more frequent than other casting calls.

Being prepared before you go to the casting call is literally everything. Even if you don't necessarily fit that role, it is still good to leave a good impression with that casting director. They may decide they want to see you in another role later on. To make the most out of a casting call; having proper training, taking classes and using a private coach are priceless when you are investing in your future. Master the art of auditioning for casting calls and you will have many opportunities knocking at your door.
