With dozens of musical theatre auditions held everyday, any kid or teen can become a musical theatre star!
Dreams of being on Broadway can come true for someone that is dedicated and willing to work hard. Musical theatre may be the best choice for you if you dream of working on a stage. Musicals are one of the most loved forms of entertainment; meaning that children and teens are drawn to the stage even more than before. Acting on stage is a very attainable dream and Broadway even more attainable.
Though, just like any other area of acting or the entertainment business; working in musical theatre takes a lot of hard work and determination to be successful. You also need to make sure that you are getting the training you need too, to make sure that you have every tool you can possibly have to make this a successful career. Take acting classes and get yourself a good acting coach to help you prepare for auditions. You can not be late to an audition, you may as well not show up because the director will not be impressed and will not cast you for the part or even call you for future auditions.
If you are going into musical theatre, be prepared to dance or sing as part of the audition process. In some cases if it is a production that has a lot of dancing they will do a separate portion of auditions that are called a dance call. At dance calls the actor will be taught a dance combination, then they will be expected to learn it well and then perform it in front of the production's creative team. You should have a lot of confidence for these dance calls and also be aware of your emotions and facial expressions. To be a Broadway star you will need patience and plenty of energy.
Make sure that you leave a good impression at your auditions as this can lead to being called for future auditions with that casting director. Sometimes not landing the role can mean that you end up with a better role later. With that being said you should treat every audition you go to with the same level of professionalism because even if you don’t win every role, the experience will help you get better at auditioning and open you up for a better role as you continue to work hard and hone your skills in musical theatre.
