Get a great agent to represent your child or teen wanting to get into acting and modeling today!
So you have decided that you want to be an actor or model. Now with all that talent and motivation, you need a great talent agent to work with.
A talent agent's job is to literally get you work as an actor or model. Agents are pretty much the only people that have the access needed to see what casting calls are currently available. Even union roles will only accept submissions of talent from agents and never the actor that is seeking work. Once the agent submits your headshots and resume to a casting director, they will only work with your agent if they decide they want you to come in for an audition.
There can be hundreds of people auditioning for the same part, the agent will be the one that negotiates the actor or models contract and pay once they have been selected for a part. The agent only gets paid when they get you work. Their commission they get is usually a 10 to 20 percent profit depending on the rate of pay that the actor has for that job. This is part of the reason why a lot of agents have certain criteria that an actor or model must meet before they will sign with you.
There are many different types of acting which means that there are many different types of agents and some that only specialize in one area of acting or modeling. Some actors will even work with a more specialized agent for some acting work and a more general agent for everything else. Research agencies before you sign on with them to ensure that you are finding the best agent to suit your needs. You should find an agent that will work hard for you and help you meet your career goals.
When you are looking to work with an agency, usually you will take and submit your headshots, resume and a demo reel to the agency that you are looking to work with. At that point the agency will call you if they want to set up an audition to see if their interest in you will mean adding a good asset to their company. When you go to an audition with an agency, they will have you reciting a monologue and reading lines from script to test your skills and they will talk to you about your career goals as an actor.
If you are not signed on right away, do not become discouraged. Not getting signed may just mean that they already have enough talent to fill the slot you would fit in. Just have patience and keep working at finding an agency until you find the right one.
Once you are finally signed with the agency, that is only the first step. It is not time for the real work to begin; the agent can submit you to auditions, but it is your skill that gets the job. If you are not good with auditioning the agent you are working with may be less likely to submit you for parts. Of course the casting directors in the area may be less willing to use that agency when searching for actors as well. Ultimately the agency benefits from you being successful and they will want to see you succeed. Make sure you are prepared for auditions and take a risk on yourself and your success.
